I know, right? What a way to start a blog!

So many big words, but this is the shiz that you need to know.

Let’s start at the beginning and why I am even talking about this.

Your self-talk/chatter.
The overthinking.
The constant chitter-chatter going on in that noggin’ of yours.
The voice inside.
The racing thoughts.
Your inner critic.
The monkey mind.

Does it ever shut off? Can you make it quieten down? What are you telling it?

Can you tell it to f*ck off? Well, personally – you could try. But trying to clear your mind yourself is likely to mean even more thoughts running in.

Did you know there are ways to quieten it down?

One of them is meditation and while I do it…I know many people don’t/can’t/won’t. And that’s ok.

However, there is another way.

Use the force, Luke. #jokes

The other way is through exercise-induced transient hypofrontality.

I know. Crazy sh*t is about to go down, my friend.

This transient thing is all about temporarily slowing down the pre-frontal cortex part of your brain. It’s totally possible to get the chatter-box part of your brain to calm its farm.

One word with three syllables is the answer – exercise.

Now, the type of exercise I am talking about isn’t competitive sports events. It’s the kind of activity where you can ‘lose yourself’ and be in the NOW—for example, long walks, yoga, high-intensity training, running or climbing a mountain.

You know the feeling, the mind-peace that comes as you are thinking about your muscles working hard or your heart is beating fast. THIS will slow the pre-frontal cortex down and minimise the chatter for a while.

Sounds easy? It is.

Can you do it now? Sure.

Getting out of your own head and into the present moment is free and just needs you to get out of your own way. Let that inner voice have a holiday, and you will feel a whole lot better.

When you feel better, you make better decisions. When you feel mentally well, you can create, live and be a better partner/husband/wife/mother/father/friend/coworker.
