Fools.

Pretty much every year I play an April Fools trick (or sometimes more than one!). I consider myself to still have a lot of childlike qualities and joking around is at the top of my list.

In the past I have set up some amazing tricks (especially when I worked in an office, because clearly I had time to think about them). My best one was convincing people that the new cafe (that was vacant) was going to be leased out to the church. They would get a free blessing with every coffee…people believed it all and were outraged! Yes, perhaps I sent a very formal memo out from a very fake email address to the gossips at my workplace… it didn’t take long for the information to spread.

Was that the wrong thing to do? Maybe? But I also believe people should loosen up a little and life shouldn’t be so serious.

So to summarise, April Fools day is one of my most favourite days of the year! And this will not change.

Friday was no different. Yet I also did it as a bit of an experiment. A test in irony perhaps.

I posted a fake picture of my next (fake) book. Called ‘The 7 secrets to not giving a sh*t’. As you know my current book is called The 7 secrets to getting sh*t done. And thank you very much, is selling really well and the response is amazing!!

Anyway… I posted the fake book title together with the fake book cover (me with as my kids says…’rude finger’ up. If you want to see the picture, head over to my Facebook page. Incidentally that post has been the most popular this year….

Most people believed it. Some realised it was a joke. Others gave me ‘feedback’ and I am thankful for. (Because if I were to do something like this, I would like feedback). BUT some people were genuinely concerned for me. Or were they concerned for them?

Lets think about this for a moment. I am writing a (fake) book about not giving s sh*t. Yet they give a sh*t. They give so much of a sh*t about the book about not giving a sh*t that its nearly comical.

And also totally missing the point.

And I am ok with that.

Why? Because people do give a sh*t about others.

People do give a sh*t about what people think about them. Its a human thing. I get it.

What I don’t get, it the caring SO much about giving a sh*t that they don’t do things for themselves to move forward in life.

And perhaps I will write a book on that.

Or maybe not.
