Your story

People are interested in stories. They are interested in the stuff that you have gone through for you to get where you are today. They like to compare… ‘Could I have done that?’ ‘What would I have done in that situation?’ ‘Is that the way I would have seen it?’.

Of course, most of this is done inside their heads and they can only use themselves as a point of reference… but they like listening to stories so they can compare themselves. Isn’t that fascinating? I am sure there are other reasons we like listening to them, this is just one of my 5am theories…

Think about when you listen to a story – what are you saying to yourself. What are you thinking? I’ll bet you are comparing some aspects of the tale to something that you have done in the past.

Are you actually ‘hearing’ the story itself? Can you listen without your own ego getting in the way? Maybe yes? Maybe no. And thats okay…as you are designed to look after number 1 first. So its natural that you will want to compare/dissect .

What draws us to a compelling tale? Can we see ourselves as the hero? What is it? What attracts us to watching movies, watching/listening to people talk about their story. Whats your take on this?

This post is more of an insight and I don’t have an answer – just theories. Its now 5.08am and there is sh*t to do. I’d love to hear what you think about this?

Make a comment and lets have a discussion about it. 🙂
